About Me
Hi, this is me - Laura! Admittedly this photo was taken a few years ago after I completed my first commission for a good friend, but I love it. I think it’s because both the painting and I are full of energy and optimism. I enjoy conveying these feelings through my artwork and the thread of chaos versus control is a juxtaposition I love to use to create playful tension within my pieces.
I love to paint using vivid colours and often include other textures/patterns as layers within my artwork. Sometimes I include a nostalgic nod to the late 80s and 90s by using foils, glitter and sequins in mixed media pieces. Why? Because that was a happy time through my eyes and I’d love for others to relate to my work and feel joy.
This is also me. Taken a few months ago working on another commission for a friend. This time I seem more grounded and with a bit less energy. But for a good reason: Here I am a mother of two and the only way I can continue to paint is by carrying my newborn daughter In a sling. This photo highlights to me that I am passionate about what I do and that there is still an important place for my work as an artist in my new life. That’s why I love this photo just as much as the first one.
My latest products are the result of me developing as an artist and translating my unique visual language into a digital form. This has allowed me to incorporate key elements such as layering, patterns, and textures more freely with a focus on bold, hand-drawn motifs at the centre of my designs. Playful idioms and phrases are at the heart of my collection. These represent the energy and optimism I feel when creating my work.
